The 2022 PELLA Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is a sleek, taut Cabernet of great personality and vividness that remains true to Kristof’s signature style of balance and elegance.
A lively garnet in the glass, the wine smells of honeysuckle, pine forest, ocean air, and sun-warmed potting soil. Fine-grained tannins frame thrilling juicy and spicy flavors that arc and bloom on the palate, including dark berries, savory truffle, clove, lemon peel, rhubarb, resinous herbs, peat smoke, and chocolate. Intriguing fresh flavors of caramelized white asparagus and hibiscus tea dance on the palate.
Expressive, with tons of movement, length, and vitality, and a satisfyingly long finish. The wine spent two years in brand new Tonnellerie Quintessence Fleur de Quintessence barrels, which we think of as the “Birkin bag” of wine barrels because of their exclusivity.
This is a statement wine handcrafted by a Napa winemaker with over three decades of hands-on winemaking experience, who is at the height of his creative powers. There is an elegant simplicity that belies complexity, like a Picasso line drawing, to the wine.
With time and cellaring, the herbal and honeycomb notes will evolve and gain in richness, much the same as the 2008 vintage.

“Black cherry, red plum, currant, chocolate, cedar spice, truffle, and forest floor. Lush dark fruit upfront on the palate, with a decent amount of weight to it. There’s a creamy texture starting from the mid-palate that lingers into a very soft and fine tannin finish with some subtle spice undertones. Immediately approachable, there is the ripeness showcasing of the vintage but nowhere near overdone. Definitely a crowd pleasing wine here that can be enjoyed immediately.”
